Examination process

The PMI®– PBA exam is offered as a computer-based/ paper based test through the global network of Prometric testing centers. The exam consists of 200 questions. 25 are pre-test items, which are not included in exam scoring. The score is calculated based on the other 175 items. Candidates who take the computer-based test receive their results (passed or not passed) immediately upon completion. PMI also evaluates proficiency levels in each Business Analysis Domain from high proficiency to low proficiency in a score report which the candidates receive after the examination. Candidates who take paper-based tests receive their test results and score reports typically within 4 weeks.

F. University/college academic and continuing education programs

Pre-requisites to become eligible

7,500 hours (5 years) working as a practitioner of business analysis with High School Diploma /Associates Degree OR 4,500 hours (3 years) working as a practitioner of business analysis.

2,000 hours working on project teams (this can be inclusive  of the 7,500 hours OR 4,500 hours experience). Any business analysis experience that occurred within the context of a project can be included. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years. In both cases candidates must also have 35 contact hours of Business Analysis education. The application for the exam and verification of education and experience are done online at the PMI website.
